Why, oh why, do gun enthusiasts feel the need to continue to bullshit us about Sandy Hook? [View all]

A couple weeks ago, the viral Facebook craze was that supposedly Adam Lanza never used an AR-15 in the shootings but instead used only handguns, and that the media was perpetuating the AR-15 story in order to support assault weapons restrictions. This was based on a single errant news report made the day after the shooting which was quickly corrected by the investigating authorities.

Now, in the wake of well-publicized emotional testimony of at least two parents of Sandy Hook Elementary victims, Neil Heslin and David Wheeler, supporting further gun control action, the newest Facebook virality is a video clip of another Sandy Hook parent, Bill Stevens, defiantly echoing Charlton Heston's line about prying one's gun from one's "cold, dead hands."

Only one problem: Unlike Heslin or Wheeler, Bill Stevens isn't actually a father of a victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings. His daughter didn't even attend Sandy Hook Elementary but instead a neighboring school.

The story here:

So claiming that Stevens is a "Sandy Hook parent" makes about as much sense as claiming that someone was a "Titanic Survivor" just because they happened to be on another boat at the same time that the Titanic sunk.

With all this continuous bullshit from the gun enthusiasts being spouted as truth, one really has to wonder how appealing their actual arguments really are if they feel the need to just make shit up out of thin air.
