(179 posts)but as a practical matter, there are only two things it is possible for you to do in 2012: vote for Barack Obama, or vote against him. There are no messages that can be sent other than "I will not support even the best President I've ever seen elected, because he isn't progressive enough." Or something to that affect.
It would indeed be better for Obama if you didn't vote at all, rather than vote against him, I am encouraged to see you admit that. I suppose we disagree only on whether that says something about him or something about you.
There are no "elected officials" involved, only the President of the United States, that one particular office; no generic candidates, only Barack Obama. And we all know that it isn't a generic "second term" he is running for, but The Second Term, the only one other than the First Term that he's going to get. Therefore, if you decide to cast a vote against Obama, it will reflect only idiocy and pigheadedness on your part, an inability to subvert your egomaniac will to the real world. You will be disavowing your ability to vote competently. Certainly (and entirely) only in my opinion. But certainly, nevertheless. Laugh all you want. I'm not the one planning to waste my vote just for a pointless sense of self-satisfaction.
Until I read the last sentence of your post, I almost started taking you seriously. Now I know who you really are.
