(9,494 posts)for profit business and not pay them for it. Possibly you don't make your living on your music. Anyone can make a recording these days. But people deserve to be paid if they create something and it is used in a money making enterprise. Maybe this bar should not play or use any copyrighted music. If you can afford to do this work for free then I suggest you donate the proceeds to charity.
Companies like BMI, ASCAP, PRS etc sign contracts with their song writers. They are living up to their contracts by collecting licensing fees.
What I don't get is... this money isn't going to a bunch of lawyers. It's going to song writers and their publishing companies. This is how they get paid. If people paid their fees you don't need lawyers to sue them.
