(115,186 posts)I'm not opposed to the word itself. When used as slang for vulva I like it. It is when it is used as an insult that I find it offensive.
As for that other word, yes, it is horrible, disgusting, foul, etc. It originated in the context of prostitution and porn. I did not use it as an insult. I used it thusly: 'men who do x view women as b******'. In that statement, am i calling women 'b******'? No.
It is logical to disagree with the premise, and say that no, men who do x are not viewing women as 'b*****'... It is not logical to pretend that *I* think of women that way.
The fact that people are more outraged about that singular use of the word than thoughtful about its actual meaning (in porn and prostitution) speaks volumes.
It is the producers of porn and the customers of prostitutes who coined that term. To direct outrage at the feminist who used it to make a point about the widespread objectification of women is the height of hypocrisy.
