In reply to the discussion: When the word 'pussy' is used an insult, do you perceive it as sexist? [View all]lbrtbell
(2,389 posts)If someone were to call me a pussy, there's far more for me to worry about than whether it's sexist. (And I say this, as a woman.) For instance....
Am I being pressured into doing something stupidly dangerous? Will I cave in to that pressure, risking injuring myself?
Or is the person calling me this doing so in a threatening manner? Do I need to engage in self-defense?
Other things to consider...is it sexist against men if someone uses insults such as d*ck (like Cheney), pr*ck, d*ckhead, get some cajones, nut up, ball up, pretend you have some balls, d*ckhead, or whatever?
In short, it isn't about sexism. It's about the age-old practice of using vulgar words as insults. Sh*thead, p*ssface, sh*t for brains, etc.
Where sexism is concerned, I worry a lot more about things that actually matter, such as attitudes toward rape, pay inequality, and reproductive rights.
