(18,018 posts)68. Totally agree - I don't even follow Nottingham City any more.
But living in Philly we're constantly surrounded with the all the sport nonsense so some of it is picked up by osmosis.
If I'm at someone's house and they have it on I might watch. Or I'll watch the Tour de France when that's running.
And if I want to nap, a golf match is ideal.
The rest of it is bread and circuses.
And as far as sport in schools is concerned my feeling is that it should be intramural and informal only. No team uniforms, nothing hyper organized - just kids kicking or throwing a ball around.
Athletic departments take way too much money away from actually educating kids.
And by education I mean to think critically and skeptically.
