(26,314 posts)but folks elected to House and especially the Senate??? I don't see it Gateley. At some point dangerously ignorant or complicit become what it is.
This wasn't some crazy cloak and dagger stuff, a couple decades of common knowledge memories of related events, a rational understanding of how locked down Iraq was at the time that was again common knowledge, a little basic and openly disseminated knowledge of about seven decades of bipartisan policy in the area should have made the whole matter beyond dubious.
Sorry but I think there is little room to be tricked armed with what should be a basic knowledge level to even credibly run for higher office, much less win.
Certainly there is little you could have learned in hindsight that a Senator didn't know at the time.
It is very tempting to let such ineptitude or collusion (which is more likely) slide because if you don't the politics become daunting, scary, and damn difficult but it isn't really plausible these folks were tricked and if they were it isn't much better to be that ignorant at that high a level than being complicit, what is the difference in practical effect?
