(14,554 posts)I actually work in IT in higher education in a research university and I have to say that "technically sophisticated" faculty are few and far between. It's shocking, actually. A lot of these people want to teach with the same crumpled old notes they've had for thirty years while the students are coming in with more and more technological skills and devices. That's how they interact with the world and that's how they are going to have to interact with the world when they graduate. In my experience, some of the faculty don't want to do the work to learn the new technologies and that is why they are against them. They can't see the value because they won't give them a chance.
Does that sound bitter? Maybe. But there are still a lot of people in the field who have a lot of power who just don't want things to change.
To be fair, I will add that there are also many who go out of their way to embrace change and explore new ways of doing things. So, just my $.02.
