(53,410 posts)when I expressed my worries about it a co-worker basically told me I should go live in another country and she declared that she would gladly lose some of her rights to be safe. Those of us who knew what was really going on were told to shut up or we were told we were unpatriotic and terrorist sympathizers.
After the war in Iraq started and I talked to another co-worker about the children that were being killed and maimed and traumatized by the Shock and Awe bombing and the American invasion my co-worker said she didn't care and that 'they' were all the same to her. All were terrorists and they should all die.
When Bush was 're-elected' the first co-worker expressed her wish that someone would assassinate him. She claimed everyone was duped by him. I reminder her of our conversation the day after 9/11. She had the decency to admit that I wasn't fooled. I told her there are a lot of us who weren't. I didn't feel any satisfaction in being able to say, "I told you so". What I felt was a profound sadness that it had happened and that people like her championed it though willful ignorance, racial hatred and jingoism.
