In reply to the discussion: My great liberal state of Maryland becomes first to BAN GUN SHOWS [View all]cthulu2016
(10,960 posts)2. I disagree with this. The thing to do was
to pass a PG county law making it illegal to sell a gun without performing the federal background check.
And if PG county can ban no-check gun sales, then go for it! That's fine.
And if that has the effect of making gun shows too burdensome to bother staging them then that is what happens.
As is usually the case, my view has nothing to do with guns in particular, but rather about civil liberties.
Or if PG county wants to say nobody can sell a gun without being a licensed dealer, then say that.
(And maybe they did -- the article is a little thin on the legal method of the ban)

OP
And they banned them only in publicly-owned venues, not private ones.

"...his gateway..." Sounds like the old gateway theory of drugs: Pot leads to Heroin. LOL.

I favor legalization of all now-illegal drugs. Legalization means regulation...

Wrong- PG County did not ban gun shows, just ones at a publicly-owned arena.

I think of Maryland as a Democratic state, but liberal might be overstating it a bit. .......

Good. Hotheads and criminals buy guns at gun shows. No questions asked. They should be banned.
