(remember it's just a story)

A great proud and powerful king regularly gathered his
court, naturally comprised of noble subjects who
lavished him with adoration. One fellow in particular,
a favorite of the king, was a poet. His poems & songs,
eloquent, elaborate, in praise of the King, brought
his Majesty particular delight.

One afternoon a line from the song made everyone
gasp. "Oh King, you are so mighty, no one is more
powerful than you, you are more powerful than God."

This made everyone quite nervous. It seemed the
poet had crossed a dangerous line, comparing the
King to God, and all waited for the King's response.

"Greater than God?" Indeed, is it so? The King
looked around his court. "Anyone...?" Anxious
silence.

Bemused by his courtiers' terror, he called upon his
most favorite, the court Jester, loved for his wisdom
and humor.

But even the Jester was nervous. If he answered that
the King was not greater than God, his Majesty may be
insulted, which could cost him his head.

Thinkety-think-think went his clever brain.

"My King," he ventured, "I can not answer the
question for certain from my own knowledge. But I do
know there is one thing YOU can do, that even God can
not do."

The King leaned forward, eagerly, as did the entire
court. "Hmmm...?"

"Majesty, if you wish to banish someone from your
Kingdom, it is easily done. This is something God
can not do."

and everyone lived happily ever after, keeping
their heads and pride intact.
