Because no advancement in the peace process could be achieved. The fact is that he knows all the Israeli power people well - and even Netanyahu was positiove about him when he was nominated and mentioned that Kerry had visited him during the period of morning for his dad - something he personally appreciated. (Kerry, or the staff member or adviser who suggested that realoly deserve credit.)

The fact is that Kerry has often been to Israel - and no one criticized Clinton, who had fewer earlier contacts when she did her first trip in Asia. (There are others attacking Kerry for not going to Asia.)

As Obama said when he was nominated, Kerry really does not need an introductory tour - hen was on SFRC for 28 years -part of the time heading the sub committee on the Middle east and near east and before that the Asia subcommittee.
