(15,444 posts)either by the school of hard-knocks (taking away everything they need to survive in this country, which is jobs, social security, public education, SSI, etc - which will hurt everybody) or by circumventing the corporate owned and operated media (which is the bulk of our media) and going directly to the people, as President Obama is doing. I think the first strategy is the only way to wake up the WooWoos.
But no matter what is decided, it's clear that for staunch Republican voters to understand what the GOP really want for this country, their (nest) eggs need to be broken.
And while we're at it, we need to get rid of staunch pro-tradition Senatorial Dems who didn't want to vote for filibuster change, and then do a Tom Delay in Democratic strong states: gerrymandering districts in off-census years to favor Democrats in order to counter the heavy gerrymandering the GOP had done in 2010.
We'll never win for the American people as long as one side cheats while the other continues to play by the rules. This is where strong institutions like MoveOn.org and DKos can be major players. What disappointed me in them this last election was, they didn't use their power to put forward and/or support true progressive candidates to primary DINOs like Feinstein. Feinstein had a very strong contender, but even as I posted about him here and asked that DU support him, he got less votes than Orly Taitz! What was the end result of not having removed Feinstein? She voted against changing the filibuster rule, as did the other "progressive" Barbara Boxer. This was a MAJOR disappointment.
We also need to make the change in our own hearts and minds and begin to fight to give these entrenched senators and congresscritters term limits. The ONLY way to realize term limits for congresscritters is to tell ourselves - and believe it - that it's time to vote a certain person out, because if we wait for these same congresscritters to pass a term limits bill, we can wait till kingdom come. I mean, would you vote to fire yourself? Change, as President Obama has said over and over again, comes from the bottom up and the middle out.
