(16,191 posts)I work in a service based business. If someone takes the service and does not pay, we pursue them via both civil and criminal means...every time, without exception (though to be fair, in my case, our services are worth considerably more than a crapper).
It's their "service". They put a price on it. The price was posted. She used it. She had no complaints about the service, but skipped on the bill anyway. That's theft.
The owner, instead of pursuing civil or criminal remedies, sent her a note and a bill. If she was a decent human being, she would have apologized and paid it. If she couldn't afford it, she could have at least apologized. Instead, she had a temper tantrum like some deadbeat and ran to the press complaining about "could-have' happened's". Nothing happened. She wasn't harassed or stalked. She just got a bill for a service that, by her own admission, she used and failed to pay for.
Sure, the cop should NOT have given the store owner her information. I've already said as much. But that doesn't make her any less of a whiny deadbeat thief. She should have paid the $5 and been thankful that the owner didn't pursue any other means. Had they done so, the whole thing would have cost her considerably more than $5.
