In reply to the discussion: Bush aide: Palin ‘wasn’t competent enough’ for Fox News [View all]Demo_Chris
(6,234 posts)She was a nobody until he tapped her. I suspect he assumed she must be fairly smart to be a Governor and quite popular. But no one actually knew anything about her until after the pick. And he couldn't back down at that point -- though he should have.
This is a perfect example of the danger of propaganda and magical thinking. Once he picked her the machine went into action, spinning her as a brilliant "real" American. Her Couric implosion only forced them to double down.
No one has done more damage to the Fox brand of conservatism. The spin they were spewing about Palin forced everyone to take another look at the nonsense Fox was pushing. Limbaugh and Hannity and Levin were out there daily, carrying the water, destroying what little credibility they had left.
I actually felt a little sorry for Palin for a couple weeks. She was so clearly unprepared, and I don't blame her one bit for trying to cash in on the stupidity of conservatives. But then I saw who and what Palin was. Ignorance I can forgive, arrogant ignorance is another story. And Palin is not only ignorant, she is mean and unprincipled.
