I'm aware that AJ has a master's from Harvard, and she is serious about issues she cares about. She has some baggage that will bother some folks--the whole Hollywood liberal thing (not that I think that's a bad thing, but some won't take her seriously and McConnell will capitalize on that), and she hasn't lived in KY for a long time. On the positive side, she has great name recognition and is an excellent communicator.

Grimes is the current KY Secretary of State. She's energetic, thoughtful, and very well thought of in most Dem circles in KY, and I think she'd make a heckuva candidate. She has the benefit of NOT being from Louisville, so she'll have a broader appeal out in the state (she's an attorney from Lexington)--people outside the 'Ville love to hate on Louisville. And she has already run for and won a statewide office.

We'll see what develops. I thought Jack Conway had a chance against Rand Paul until he totally self-destructed. So what do I know?
