(6,234 posts)...That for at least some of the members of that fringe Palin's bobble head ignorance is endearing. That's what they want from a woman -- someone just smart enough to parrot Limbaugh and Hannity with conviction.
Do you recall the TV show they did about Sarah Palin's Alaska (that might have been the name actually) in which she is shown hunting something or other. She's blasting away at this thing and missing, then her dad or hubby gives her a different gun to shoot. All the while they are encouraging her. You can do it Sarah! Be careful of this gun Sarah, it kicks more than your gun! Here let me help you! Whatever. Eventually she (or someone) shoots the thing and Sarah gives the obligatory "circle of life" hunter speech.
At the time I was puzzled that they would show all that, since she is often portrayed as the rugged mountain girl next door, but she looked fairly silly. And of course she has editorial control. But then I realized that this was the point. She's playing to the fantasy. The Teaparty folks want her to struggle with that big old gun. Her job is to go out there and look willing and brave but desperately in need of a man. She's got to miss, get help from the men, miss some more, get more help and encouragement, and only then can she hit it.
To these people she represents the pinnacle of womanhood. She's attractive in a wholesome way, but innocently flirtatious as well. She's almost, but not quite, as smart as any man in the room. She would laugh at all of your jokes. She likes guns and hunting but she needs your help. She loves children, America, and Jesus. She doesn't trust nor need any of that ivy league book learning. She knows that Fox is real news, Obama is a socialist, Jesus is her savior, and her husband is her master.
Putting this lady out there as some feminine ideal is arguably the biggest insult the GOP has every handed to women, and it doesn't say a whole lot for their men either.
