And yet in this case I am going to come to his defense.

Obama's job is to govern. That requires some level of compromise, and it requires that he meet with and understand these guys on a more personal level than speeches can deliver. Even having this dinner cost both sides some support from their more passionate base. There's a lot more to making deals happen than meets the eye. He has to understand what deals they have with each other before he can propose any deals with himself.

I share your skepticism, but I think it is best to save the outrage for when he is actually stabbing his supporters in the back.

Just my opinion.
