Have had that same experience with two rescue cats. Am looking forward to the day our current feral rescue cat Mama Cat decides to accept an invitation to come into the house. She will visit the garage but never the house. She has been like the life of Pi only much smaller it is questionable to continue to call her feral.

Two years ago a young feral female moved in under our deck proceeded to drop 4 kittens.

She is my first adult feral, we took in a kitten half frozen about 9 years ago just a few weeks old.
