LaBarbera is simply quoting them.

That said, I once knew a guy who worked with LaBarbera before leaving and coming out. This was about ten years ago. He said LaBarbera had an awful lot of gay porn materials on hand and seemed particularly obsessed with BDSM culture.

You know, "for research" I'm sure.
