(25,406 posts)for your understanding. I, too, hope that prosperity for all is what makes the whole thing work. If younger workers can earn decent wages, maybe one or one and a half percentage point of a raise in the FICA rate won't hurt so bad. Chained CPI is a very gradual reduction over a long period of time in a Social Security benefit, and only becomes significant if there is high inflation during one's retirement years. If inflation were as virtually wiped out as it has been over the past few years (of course, I'm comparing with the 1960's and 1970's) then there will not be much of an impact.
It will take some tweaks by all parts of society to get our economic house back in order. If we fail to do so, I guarantee you that the wealthy will suffer the least.
