(38,893 posts)...well, that sort of says it all. In the 2006 leaked "Plutonomy" Citigroup memo, they mention that income inequality is "apparently tolerated" in the US, UK, and Canada, and that people demanding the political system change to provide for fair distribution as their main, immediate fear, and that there are signs of trouble but nothing solid yet. Per the arcs of other plutonomies, uprisings are common and quite honestly, natural. They say they're keeping a close watch on it.
When you consider 7400+ Occupy Wall Street activists being arrested, even beaten and bloodied, and absolutely zero banksters or wall streeters arrested or even held accountable for nearly crashing the economy and continuing to receive massive bailouts, it makes more sense regarding the true sources of power in this country as well as their ability to quell any opposition. Banks were just declared "too big to prosecute" so you know which way the wind blows. As things are only becoming worse per income inequality, the natural dynamic is for another, larger populist uprising, and for those who do NOT want that, to prepare to destroy it when it happens.
Police state? No. Plutonomy / Corporatocracy? Yes.
