(36,063 posts)For example In some places hunting requires a 'permit' not a license. In other places hunting requires a 'license' rather than a permit. In some places hunting for certain species requires a general license and a specific permit.
Being licensed hasn't always and sometimes still doesn't require specific knowledge.
The crux of the gun problem ISN'T being licensed, or even knowing certain information about the proper use and handling of a weapon.
The problem is the misuse of firearms despite often in the face of certain knowledge that threatening and/or shooting people as a means to satisfy a personal urge such as punishing, avenging, or calling attention to a personal crisis (as opposed to an emergency need for protection of human life) is morally and criminally objectionable.
