(34,189 posts)And other "reality shows" that actually deal with reality. The first two explain scientific principles and show application of those principles. "Doing DaVinci" has been cancelled but the show was fantastic - they built DaVinic inventions from his plans; some of the inventions may have never been constructed before.
Some of the reality shows that deal with wildlife are good, such as "Wild America" but others, such as "Gator Boys" get tedious with their weekly interpersonal problems.
In a tepid defense of ghost shows, the British ghost hunting show, "Most Haunted", was once recognized by an archeological publication because they showed floor plans and "tours" of historic locations for which those were seldom publicly available. Few other programs tour old houses and buildings or show a clear floor plan to them. The article recommended watching the show for that reason, not for the ghost hunting. I had saved the article but it's been years and I no longer have it on my hard drive so I don't remember which publication it was in.
ETA - I left out "Antiques Roadshow" as a reality show. Both the American version on PBS or the British version (which has been running on Ovation Channel) are great for learning about the history of antique/old objects.
