asking her in what way the H1B Visa program was impacting her husband's employment opportunities and whether it was what first led to his termination? It should been about policy and not whether a single individual has a job. Have him send his resume to me is a pretty weak response. What is the President going to do - find jobs for individuals one person at a time?

I think he missed a golden opportunity to bring the H1B Visa discussion to the public.

Now if we can only get someone reporter with half a brain to ask this question in a general election debate. You know a question that states the numbers involved etc.

I think what is not mentioned in this discussion is that, in addition to companies reducing labor cost, the H1B Visa is tied up in international relations with India. They are an important counterweight to both China and Pakistan.

For me I have a simple suggestion for H1B Visa. Eliminate all the crap (the pretending to find American workers) and charge $50K/year for the priviledge of working in this country. Any one can get a work Visa if they or their sponser pays $50K/yr. No worry about posting jobs with narrowly defined requirements and gaming the system. If U.S. engineers cannot compete on that level, then we have more problems than can be imagined. I could be persuaded for a different amount.
