18. That was Bruce Lee's on fault: inflicting Norris on the rest of us...

Without Lee, Norris would have remained "karate instructor to the stars."

Norris had been a karate instructor (and world-class competitor) with clients like Lee Marvin and a few other well-known actors. Lee was stunt coordinator on a Dean Martin "Matt Helm" film The Wrecking Crew and recruited Norris to play a bad-guy henchman because he could a sweeping kick that didn't look fake.

A couple of years later, when Norris was world karate champ, Lee recruited him for the big climactic fight scene in The Way of the Dragon. It was Lee who taught Norris that part of looking like a bad-ass on film was having control of the script - and then Lee's death left a void just as martial arts were gaining some steam in American pop culture. It needed stars, and guess who was available?
