In reply to the discussion: Clear Channel Chairman Stepping Down/StopRush Gathers Momentum [View all]mac56
(17,819 posts)46. Sadly, no, for many of the reasons I've already touched on.
When a terrestrial station streams on the Internet, the music royalties increase by an order of magnitude. The big boys with deeper pockets spread the added cost across all their stations, and/or pass it along to their advertisers. Our advertisers are primarily mom'n'pop businesses, like we are, so couldn't easily take the hit. Besides, it's not a "value added" if the ad for their Main Street hardware store can be heard by someone streaming the signal halfway across the globe!
Small-market broadcasting is a different world, and it's understandable why it's (unfortunately) moving toward extinction.

Some parts of corporate America like Limbaugh. Advertisers, though, dislike controversy.

Clear Channel is a propaganda machine like FOX news. It was never based on listener interest.

Remember what Clear Channel did to the Dixie Chicks and the ant-war movement in 2003?.....

I think Progressive Radio is a very different animal from the RW airwaves.
