(135,425 posts)not the best person to ask. Many of my friends are Europeans--UK (English/Welsh/Scottish), Irish, German, French and Italians, but I also have friends who were born in Iran, Syria, Turkey, Egypt, India, Morocco, etc. Jamaica and Bahamas too! Brazil, PR, Venezuela!! Good grief...!
I never really thought of it before now, but I don't have anywhere near as many friends who are native born to USA as I do friends who have acquired their citizenship either as a consequence of moving here with their families as children and being raised up here, or coming here as adults and working, and later choosing to obtain citizenship. A very good set of friends (Europeans) only got their citizenship a few years ago, in their seventies, after residing here for over forty years as expats, retiring, and raising their US citizen children here.
The Swedes, apparently, still like coming here, and to UK, and to China as well--their society is more mobile these days:
As with previous years, SCB reported that the most popular destinations for Swedish emigrants were the Nordic neighbours, the UK and the United States.

Despite the shortcomings of the place from the perspective of people who are born and raised here, and have not lived abroad much if at all, there are a lot of nice qualities to the country, not the least being the weather. Also, many do like the system of government, in all its imperfections.
There's something for every taste, here, and the country is large enough and diverse enough that expats can find friends from home in short order. The biggest appeal, though, is that no one locks the door and forces people to stay if they want to pick up and leave, assuming someone else will take 'em.
