(1,388 posts)It is exactly these kind of people who push others to want a total ban on guns. My comment to that, "get real". Guns are not going to be banned. They are too ingrained in our society. But----- reasonable gun laws are needed. And I don't want to hear that crap about if they enforced the laws they already have there would be no problem. No reason to open or close carry. We have law enforcement to do that. Lots of training goes into being able to mentally do that job. No reason for weapons to semi-automatically be able shoot more than a few rounds before reloading. To what end? Hunting? One or two shots and the prey is gone. Semi and fully automatic weapons that shoot more than a few rounds are for military and we spend much money to have that capability.
I know it is only anecdotal, but the people I know who want concealed carry, or open for that matter, and who want big magazine semi-automatic weapons, are a bit on the paranoid side. They are scary and I really don't want to be around them when they pull their weapons out. Sadly, for me, a couple are neighbors and I can't always avoid them.
I don't advocate for a ban on guns. I own a couple myself. Responsible ownership is needed and responsible gun owners are the ones who are going to make this happen. I used to be a member of the NRA. Long time ago when the purpose was to teach safe gun ownership and how to be a good shooter. Still have my patch. But the NRA is owned operated by the gun makers who have no idea of responsible.
