But I live in Florida where open carry in public is illegal. There is an open carry movement in Florida but even if it does become legal, I will chose to carry concealed. The reason is that I do NOT wish to intimidate others.
I will agree that real assault rifles are not used for hunting as they are capable of fully automatic or burst fire and I don't believe that it is legal to hunt with one in any state.
However you can hunt with an AR-15 in many states. AR-15 style rifles are commonly used for hunting feral hog in Florida and some other states with 20 and 30 round magazines. Feral hog are considered a pest as they are not native to our nation and do considerable damage to the environment. While most hunters feel the AR-15 is underpowered for deer hunting, many states allow its use but usually limit magazine capacity to five rounds.
In rural areas, an AR-15 may prove an excellent self defense weapon.
