(22,144 posts)The military provocation is mostly from the NK side. They sunk a ship and shelled an occupied island.
NK refuses talks with SK, who should be first at the table, not the US. The US is correct to reject direct talks for that reason alone.
The reality is there is a well armed state that is angry due to its own failures and whose people are starving. That is a bad thing. The new leadership is insecure and needs to make its mark. That makes it worse. Nobody is giving it much in aid these days, including its former patrons. Add it all together and its deadly situation waiting to happen.
NK will implode soon enough. The question is will they attack others in the process. For that reason I would favor giving them some ill deserved slack, but little more.
