in our society don't determine punishment.

If the pro-control movement would stop running on emotion they could accomplish, along with the pro 2A side, a lot of reform. UBC and mag limits are accomplishable.

The reason the AWB is not is because it cannot be defined without basically saying "ban semi automatics". If pro control has that as a goal - fine. At least please go after the issue correctly. We are the smart party, remember? However when this is pointed out - the emotion takes over and its NRA this and gun nut that. It cheapens the argument

And if you want real progress on gun control that effects peoples lives everyday, go after illegal handguns. The AWB is a great windmill for the pro control side. They KNOW they will never get it but can say "boy we really tried, but the NRA owns congress". pro 2A people have no issue with criminals not having guns - lets go get the illegal handguns. How did NYC do that?

The problem the two sides will never agree on is mental health. Basically - Laughner, Holmes, Lanza - all who in the "good old days" most likely would not have had access to guns, let alone access to freedom. As good Democrats - we certainly can't go after them. They are mentally ill.

Pro 2A will always say - fix that issue first then we talk.

That is going to be a middle ground that is very hard to reach.
