5. I remember as a kid being absorbed with fan

worship for folks like Jerry West, Johnny Bench, Jack Kirby, Carl Sagan, Philip Jose Farmer, Larry Niven, and Tom Baker. I probably would have invaded their personal space then.

I grew up. No way would I ever go up and talk to them or any of the other stars of today. I respect their privacy too much. We could do a whole lot more growing up in this country and stop with the fan worship (whether it is an athlete or a scientist). If these people give you joy, give them some in return by allowing them to live normal lives. I heard a story on NPR about an author who has written about fame. He mentioned that he and Robin Williams saw each other preparing to job while standing outside of their apartment buidling. Williams looked normal and just enjoying himself. He eyes turned cold once he realized that the author recognized him.
