(14,087 posts)Some of us here remember what happened to AARP when the brass sided with the bush administration to screw the old folks with the medicare bill. They got nasty letters and calls from all of us, and we all mailed back their membership solicitations with nasty notes about their stance on the medicare bill.
We really need to do something even more sweeping for this issue. We need to call every one of our representatives, state, local and federal, in the democratic party, and let them know that they will not now, and not ever, get one more red cent if they don't denounce the reduction in senior's social security benefits. We need to contact our party heads, county, city and state, and really bombard them with calls and letters. Our local democratic politicians....even the school board elected ones, need to be told we are not going to support them if the democratic party goes along with this "compromise". We have already OBVIOUSLY been COMPROMISED by our elected officials. We need to threaten EVERY elected democrat, so that they will put pressure on the State party chairmen, governors, senators, representatives, all the way up the chain.
We need the biggest push-back ever seen by contacting EVERY democrat in every office. We need to rattle every cage.
Why?
Because IF WE DON'T
The republican party is going to win every election for the next fifty years. If the social security safety net is fucked with during a democratic president's term WITH HIS BLESSING , we will never win another election. Obama isn't just screwing seniors....he is screwing EVERY DEMOCRAT elected to office, or hoping to ever get their office back. And it is up to every one of us to let every democrat in our county, state, city offices to know that if they don't PUT THIS TO BED ONCE AND FOR ALL, all of us who donate, work for or support democrats, KNOW we are being screwed and we won't play anymore, because there would be no use.
Republicans would love to see this happen to social security under a democratic administration. You can take that to the bank.
