Some people are surprised to learn I hate PETA because I'm such a huge lover of animals. Well I'm sorry to say that they hurt the animal rights movement hugely with their idiotic bullshit. They make people like me look like whack jobs. They get millions in donations only to squander it on their extreme attention seeking rhetoric advertising (such as in the OP). As per the OP, if they spent as much effort on trying save and help animals as they do on their ridiculous propaganda, they could make a difference.
And apparently they euthanize most animals they rescue which makes them not a whole lot better than your city pound. I find it hard to believe that most of them needed it because of health or aggressive issues. They do honestly believe they are better off dead. They lie profusely and there is even some speculation they are connected to some environmental terrorism. I don't know if that's true, but they do cosy up with people who have committed those crimes at the very least.
I once heard a speech with the founder of PETA that would make your toes curl. She was calling for the liberation of all animals - including pets. Just set them all free because having pets is equivalent to having slaves.
