(14,040 posts)PETA may put on some really inane publicity stunts and they can be highly offensive but clearly many people in this thread have no clear idea just how much PETA really does do for animals. Yes, PETA is pro-euthanizing animals, because we have an animal over-population problem that the AKC perpetuates by continuing to breed dogs. People who complain about kill shelters should adopt some animals instead of purchasing AKC animals. And yes, PETA thinks it would be better if people didn't "own" companion animals (just much like they don't people should be "owned"
but they know that isn't realistic so they prefer that people adopt from shelters and give those animals good homes.
I worked at PETA for 3 years and let me tell you folks something that you never stop to consider... people treat animals horribly. I saw it on a daily basis and because of the abuse I saw animals go through, I don't like people much any longer. It doesn't mean that I ever agreed with everything PETA proposed or how they went about some things but they do a lot for animals around the world, including being the punching bag from so many folks.
