It may have been a fatal error. That's what I don't get in the whole guns-are-good argument. No one can be "on" 24 hours a day, and a mistake can so easily be deadly when deadly means are everywhere and impulsively accessible. People easily argue that a lion tamer is taking his life in his hands by entering an environment with an unpredictable and potentially deadly animal but they don't seem able to translate that into being in a public space with an unpredictable number of strangers in unpredictable states of mind and access to instantly deadly means of acting out.
