(805 posts)I've known a couple of people who worked with PETA and they were sane but they left the organization because of the rhetoric. Back in the early 90's I donated to them until I began to realize that I vehemently disagreed with Ingrid Newkirk and some of her associates on some of their views, and felt more and more embarrassed about their outrageous advertising that detracts from the real message. Then according to the State of Virginia they euthanize on average 90%+ of the animals they take in. They sound more like a slaughterhouse than a humane organization. Then came reports and a subsequent arrest and trial in the prosecution of a couple of their people throwing the remains in dumpsters like they were garbage. I also found out that they supported something that I really really don't like. Not going to go into detail so as not to cause yet another debate that tends to cause some very heated discussion.
I believe however that it's most likely just a few of them and the rest have their hearts in the right place. Don't get me wrong, I still agree with them on ending animal cruelty, lab testing animals not required by law, the fur trade, spaying and neutering pets so as not to contribute to the population problem, etc. and they have done some good things. I just can't support some of the other things they have said and done.
