5. I think that's far from true, especially for the Catholic Church

They don't like gays of course. Everybody knows that. But I think the case that they hate the poor is less strong. And the case that they hate foreigners is absolutely false. They are quite fond of Catholics from Latin America, who comprise the bulk of the undocumented population. I think it's widely assumed that the Church views the growing Hispanic share of the population as its key to future viability.

I'm neither Catholic nor trying to stick up for the Church. But I thought I'd note this.
