That is pretty rare on DU these days.
Back when this was a Progressive site,
Recs would top 1000 often.
We love our life here.
It is much more than just "surviving".
We "Live Well" on a laughably LOW "taxable" income using stuff we learned in the 60s. My Wife & I have a compatible skill set that makes
living sustainably and independently fun (most of the time).
Our bank account isn't RICH, but our everyday life certainly is.
My Wife is the ONLY Medical First Responder for over 60 square miles,
and we are both active officers and firefighters in our local Fire Department.
When people need help, we are the ones they call.
While that can be a huge Pain-in-the-Ass at 2AM,
it IS immensely rewarding, and we are grateful for this opportunity to be helpful in our little community.
But, again, we were/are very lucky to have this happen for us.
We did some leg work, made some choices, and invested a lot of sweat and sore backs, but LUCK is always a BIG part of the equation.
Planning & Control are subordinate to LUCK & Blessings.
Like most Americans, it can all disappear in the blink of an eye,
so we focus on being grateful every day.
That is WHY a traditional Democratic Party Issue like Social Security is so important to Democrats like us. We have seen what happens without it.
Social Security is the cornerstone of the Modern Democratic Party,
and the New Deal & Great Society Social Programs are a BIG part of WHY my wife & I have worked tirelessly for the Democratic Party for over 40 years.
As far as we're concerned, without THOSE, there IS no worthwhile Democratic Party. ANGER is an appropriate response to seeing these programs marginalized,
and the people who support them ridiculed.
