Most of those people are paranoid beyond belief with grandiose plans of building a family fortress but no plans for water, medication, or much of anything else, even knowing how to patch their shoes when they give out.
In a total collapse, basic skills will be a lot more important than firepower and since no one has the leisure time to perfect all the skills we'd need, pooling our lot with other people is the only way anyone will survive.
The idiots with the bunkers will just be triggered by some event that sensible people shrug at, dig themselves in, be afraid to sleep because the barbarian hordes are expected any minute, and go completely bonkers and kill the wife and kids instead.
