reasons why I seem to have trouble with personal relationships is my suspicion of anyone who tries too hard to...well, IMO...ingratiate him/her self to me.
Being too nice. I always figure the person has ulterior motives, you know?
OTOH, if someone is a shit to me in the beginning, then that is the end of any desire I'll ever have for pursuing a friendship/relationship with that person.
There has to be just the "right" mixture of distance and warmth.
So anyway, along the lines of how men can make women like them, I had read an article some years back, and I don't know how true it is or not, but social experiments suggested that one way men can get women to like them is to be standoffish at first meeting, almost (but not quite) to the point of rudeness.
Then, at each subsequent meeting, being a little nicer, and a little nicer.
yeah...head games.
Supposedly, the women will believe that the guy is someone who is discerning in his choice of women, and that they (the women) have somehow "made the grade".
Can women be manipulated like that?
Who knows. Maybe it's true. I mean, don't we all like to think that we're something...special?
