You don't think Gingrich or Romney or any of the other Rethugs wouldn't be worse than Obama?

Any of them would be much, much, worse.

Obama is pushing for a payroll tax cut for working people (funds replaced with a surtax on the rich) and the elimination of tax cuts for the wealthy. With a Ruthug in the White House, the opposite would take place.

Obama is willing to give some ground on "entitlement" programs to reduce the deficit -- something progressives oppose -- but with a rethug prez much that hard-fought ground would be utterly lost. They seek the destruction of FDR's New deal; Obama does not.

Advances in rights for the LGBT community? Fuggetaboutit.

War with Iran would be much more likely.

The Affordable Care Act would be repealed, with no chance of anything better taking its place.

The EPA would be effectively neutered, and possibly eliminated.

Obama is not "far to the right of center" -- the "center" in American politics has moved much further to the right.

The Republican/Teabagger Party is so far to the right and batshit crazy, one of them in the White House would be a disaster of epic proportions. It absolutely boggles my mind how anyone can think "If we had a republican president and a Democratic president we would be far better off then we are now" -- whatever the heck that means.
