With the economy turning the corner and President Obama likely to hold office they see their own downfall.
Reagan had three legs to his political stool (I think all their policies qualify as "stool" but that is a different story). He had the social leg, the economic leg and the security leg. We have gained major ground on both security and social issues. Now they are depending on the strength of their economic policies to support their party. The problem is that their economic policies have failed miserably. They can't admit that because then they need to admit that all the problems they caused are actually their fault. By the end of Pres. Obama's second term the economy will be far better than it was at the end of W's second term and we will have a very clear picture painted for the American voter. It isn't long until their party won't have a leg to stand on. and the smart ones know it (the crazies don't get it but that won't change anything).
