I loved him as Mary's boss on the Mary Tyler Moore show, & I loved him in the more serious Lou Grant spinoff. (I was furious when that highly-rated, popular show was taken off the air due to Reagan's animosity toward Ed Asner.)
I loved him in the Christmas movie, "The Gathering". He could play the most lovable grump (while being a marshmallow inside).
But knowing that Ed Asner is a Democrat & having seen him advocate for those who need a voice makes him an honest-to-goodness hero & a good man in my eyes.
He is dear to me.

I met him backstage and got his autograph in Detroit...Max Fisher Theatre...circa 1979...

Saw him a couple of years ago in a one person play of FDR. He was amazing as FDR
