(275 posts)My little sister (15 yrs old) was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, by a fairly well renowned hospital; a very poor prognosis indeed. Only a few people who have gotten it have survived... so they started her on a regimen of the most hardcore chemo available. 4-5 months later and 2 days before they were going to basically remove her sciatic nerve and much of her pelvis (leaving her paralyzed from the waist down) they decided to get a second opinion from 2-3 other places (whey they waited this long to do so blows my mind). All other places came back saying it appeared to be a Giant Cell Tumor, which is only as dangerous as much as the cells reproduce in the area (like any other tumor). One of the best days of my life when I was told that was the case. It was also this day that I decided to recommend second opinions to every single person I can.
Best of luck.
