(978 posts)I've owned Macs since the Mac 512K years ago. Macs have always been pricey. I paid for $1200 for my daughter's iMac and that was 6 years ago but it's still working great. I've upgraded it once with more ram. We just bought her a MacBook Pro for college. I wouldn't go with anything else. I have an HP Desktop that I use for work at home if a customer's files need to be done on a PC.
But I prefer Macs. The design is more elegant and user friendly. Plug and play. It's great for doing graphics, which is what I do. The PC has always felt bulky and clumsy when drawing.
I paid over $3500 for my current Mac Pro tower Mac with quad processors but it's worth the money. When I get a Mac I keep it for a long time and I've never had one break. The G4 that I replaced with the Mac Pro still runs great.
Plus they are backwards compatible. When our house was built we had it wired with Ethernet cables. The Macs could hook up fine but I had to rewire the outlets for the PC because they couldn't sense the twisted pair connections and switch them around like the Macs could. That took awhile to figure out what was going on. The Macs worked on all the outlets but the PC wouldn't.
