(19,926 posts)45. OMG, I'm so sorry about your loss. Yes, it's terribly sad.
Too bad you were so far away at the time.
It's not a myth though. You need a "break stick" or something like it to get them to open their mouth if they don't want to let go. One of my dogs did get in a fight and she would not let go of the other dog's lip. We had them both pinned down and she wouldn't let go until someone got a stick in her mouth. It's not actually a lock jaw, hence the parentheticals, but they will not let go unless forced if they don't want to.

OP
I'd have guessed there was an issue with bad breeders or fight trainers or something

Cats are not generally a threat to people, since most run away instead of attacking

I have never been harmed (deliberately ) by a dog, but have been attacked by 6 cats

What standards do "most vets" use to tell? And no. Even vets can't often tell.

And I was agreeing. If dogs must be registered, register them all. Agreeing with you.

Aw, thanks. Yeah, back in the day they bred them specifically to not be human aggressive,

Oh, thank you. It's actually been a while now but I still haven't gotten other dogs.

It actually is a lot like an assault weapons ban: supporters don't know what it actually bans

I'm buying a pit pull, getting him a CCW and then taking him to Olive Garden for a 44 oz. soda.

We routinely hear that owners of pit bulls don't know how to handle them properly

Well, if you're going to ban them, the actual definition becomes extremely important
