Kennedy to establish the Food for Peace program and then becoming the first Democrat from South Dakota to be elected to the U.S. Senate for a generation. George McGovern's life story sounds so patriotic and so small town America - it's hard to believe there was ever anyone that good, wholesome, patriotic and decent. But the goons - including some in the Democratic Party establishment managed to turn him into the very symbol of the absolute opposite of everything he really was in real life.
