Such a beautiful link and post to the Eugene Marathgon. Their love and support to Boston is simply beautiful. Gretchen dedicated a leg to Boston. Tears.

Thirty-five-year-old marathoner Gretchen Strohlein of Portland
“dedicated” one of her legs to Boston — literally. She wrote the words “This leg dedicated to Boston” on her right leg with a Sharpie marker.

She said the terrorist attack at Boston hit close to home because she knows she easily could have been there. She ran the Boston Marathon in 2010 and had numerous friends there this year.

The fact that many people lost their legs in the attack, and that marathons by their nature are wedded to humans’ legs, is what inspired her to write the message at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, Strohlein said.

Even when she was feeling tired during the race, remembering the victims gave her strength. “You know what? You’ve got both your legs,” she would tell herself.
